Thursday May 14th, we celebrate Ascension Day. On this day, long ago, the risen Christ was taken into heaven. The resurrected Jesus had been appearing to his followers for forty days. (Acts 1:1-11). The Ascension marks the end of Jesus’ time on earth. It is the final elevation of his human nature to divine glory and into the presence of God.
I love this icon of the Ascension where all we see of Jesus is his feet as he disappears into the clouds. Imagine being there! Below is information about this altar piece. Ascension Day is always on the Thursday , which is the fortieth day of the Easter Season. It comes ten days before we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. Stay tuned for more on that!
