About All Saints’ Day . . .

All Saints’ Day is one of the seven Principal Feast Days in the Church’s calendar that take precedence over everything else that may be occurring that day. It has a fixed date, occurring every year on November 1st, falling between All Hallows’ ever (Halloween) and All Souls’ Day. It is the day where we remember and celebrate the known and unknown Saints of the Church, those faithful departed who had an exceptional degree of holiness, likeness, or closeness to God.

All Saints’ Day is a BIG DEAL. The Prayer Book rubrics allow for two celebrations of this Feast, one on November 1st, and again on the Sunday following that day. This Sunday we are going to mark this special day with special liturgies and customs appropriate for the day. The church and priest will be decked in festal white. We will all renew our Baptismal Vows, we will sing the Mass at 10:30, and we will switch to the Eucharistic Prayer many consider the most suited to a Principal Feast, Eucharistic Prayer B. We will make a joyful noise unto the Lord singing favorite hymns like, and For All the Saints who from their labor rest, Ye watchers and ye holy ones. We will also remember the souls of dearly departed.

The Feast of All Saints’ is one of the great joyful celebrations of the year. Come celebrate those who lives inspire us, and who serve as models of for our own.
